GEISHA I
This stylized portrait was inspired by the great Japanese woodcut artist Kitagawa Utamaro. This is a detailed head of the full body images done in the 18th century, a series of which can be found in Art Institute of Chicago. Gieshas were considered professional entertainers and were trained from early childhood. They were a very respected social presence in the community.

GEISHA II
Another portrait inspired by Kitigawa Utamaro. Once training as geishas was well underway they apprenticed as "maiko" with a distinctive dress and make-up using a pink blush over the white base normally seen on a geisha. As she became more proficient she was allowed to reduce the amount of blush. Accomplished geisha wore just a touch of red near the eyes as the image shows.
